Waxing 101: Arm Wax

Waxing 101: Arm Wax

nova wax

To all the licensed estheticians, intermediate, and first-time waxers, this is your time to shine with Nova. As we stay preoccupied during quarantine, we can all live hair free with the help of Nova’s unique hair removal formula.  Practicing our technique is key and let's face it - the hair will keep coming back!

Every week till the end of the month Liz is going to share waxing videos with you to keep you motivated, inspired, and waxing!

Before you watch the video, here are some basics for our newbies...

  • Wax consistency is key! Your wax performs best at a certain temperature so if Nova is too hot or lukewarm, you will not see the results that you want - set your wax warmer between 60-65c, depending on the room temperature, to get a syrup-like consistency.
  • When applying Nova, pull enough wax out of the pot to allow yourself to place about a dime-thick layer on your skin. If the layer is too thin it will not allow you to get a good pull and dry quickly resulting in breakage. If the layer is too thick it will get tacky and stretch out into a snap which is something you don’t want.
  • Make sure you allow enough time for the wax to adhere to all the hairs before you take action - 8 to 10  seconds is enough time to get a solid effective pull.

PREPARATION

It’s important to exfoliate your skin the day before you wax so all your hairs are out and there aren’t any hidden ingrown hairs.

We are in the process of creating our very own Nova pre & post products and in the meantime here are Liz’s approved products...

GARNIER MICELLAR WATER

Start by using this all-in-one cleanser on disposable makeup remover wipes as it is powerful yet gentle on the skin. The micelles capture and lift dirt away easily and leave the skin clean and refreshed for your wax session.

AFTERCARE

THAYERS WITCH HAZEL ASTRINGENT

This is a natural treatment formulated with Aloe Vera which soothes, cleanses, heals and preserves the skin. The natural ingredients are designed to aid in the removal of oil from the skin and it is also anti-inflammatory. The best part - It's alcohol-free!

DESERT ESSENCE TEA TREE OIL OINTMENT

This is a blend of soothing essential oils and herbal extracts that helps relieve minor skin irritations that may occur. It provides cooling relief after waxing and moisturizes the skin leaving it hydrated. Just like Thayers, it’s an anti-inflammatory which is great as a post-wax product.
